34-year-old Ferguson was linked to Wednesday in reports today after Sturrock, a long-time fan of the former Scotland international was with him as a trainee at Dundee United.
He has been deemed surplus to requirements at Goodison Park this summer after two successful spells on the blue side of Merseyside - usually on the sidelilnes though more recently.
Meanwhile Sturrock is set to start talking to former loanee Carson in the next few days regarding a prospective loan spell which will keep the Liverpool goalkeeper at Hillsborough for the season.
