Adams eyes York run-out - exclusive

Wednesday's penultimate pre-season game ended 1-1 at Hillsborough yesterday as The Owls played well against a depleted Manchester City team, captain for the day and former City player Glenn Whelan got SWFC's goal.

But all the players who did not get a chance to shine against Stuart Pearce's men will expect to play at York - so that means new boys Burton O'Brien and Richie Partridge should complete the game.

Adams is also hoping to start the match after quite a frustrating summer recovering from a grion problem.

He told Footymad: "Pre-season’s not been that bad. Obviously I have had the operation and I’m just finding my feet at the moment so hopefully I can get in 90 minutes at York. I haven’t had much of a summer to be honest because of my injuries and I have been doing a lot of rehab and I am still getting there at the moment."

The former Plymouth man is under no illusions that the up and coming season will be a massive step up in class for Wednesday and he believes that the club's new signings will push the squad even further.

He added: "This season’s going to be interesting though. It’s going to be good in regards to competition for places and that will be good for the team – the team can only benefit by having four central midfielders competing for places so I’m looking forward to it and it should be good.

"There’s a lot of expectation at this club and the fans want us to do well but the aim this season has to be to stay up and stabilise ourselves into the new division."

Steve MacLean will undergo a scan on his knee after he went down in the 12th minute against City - it is hoped that he will be ok for the start of the season while Graham Coughlan was taken off as a precaution.
