Sheffield Wednesday’s summer transfer activity continued today with the acquisition of young Portuguese midfielder Diogo Amado.

The 22-year-old has moved away from his native Portugal for the first time in his career, signing a 2-year contract at Hillsborough, moving on a free transfer having left Uniao Leiria.

Amado featured a few times for Leiria in the Portuguese top flight in 2010/11. Last season he spent much of his time on loan with Estoril in the 2nd tier where he made 20 appearances in helping the coastal town team to win the league and promotion to Portugal’s Primeira Liga.

Amado has represented Portugal throughout the youth age groups up to and including under 21 level. His career began at Sporting Lisbon where he played with current Owls midfielder Jose Semedo.
