Another shambolic 2nd half from Wednesday

Norwich go top by hammering Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday produced yet another 2nd half display to forget on Saturday afternoon as Norwich scored 4 goals without reply at Hillsborough with the win sending the Canaries soaring to the summit of the Championship table.

The Owls came into the game on the back of 3 defeats but had a great chance to take the lead inside 5 minutes when Reach picked out Fletcher and the strikers header across goal was retrieved on the byline by Reach with the loose ball rolling kindly to Onomah 6 yards out, only for the on-loan Tottenham midfielder to blaze high into the stand behind the goal.

Within minutes the visitors spurned a gild-edged chance of their own when Lees was somewhat harshly adjudged to have fouled Vrancic in the penalty area. The latter dusted himself down to take the spot kick himself but could only produce a tame daisy cutter down the centre which Dawson saved with ease. The half continued in an open fashion with some enterprising play from both sides and it was somewhat surprising that it was 0-0 at the break.

Within 10 minutes of the restart Norwich had a firm grip on the game. Pukki opened the scoring on 50 minutes from close range after Wednesday failed to clear a miss-hit cross-shot and 5 minutes later Buendia doubled the advantage as the Owls struggled with a high ball into the box and the midfielder was allowed to control and calmly roll the ball into the bottom corner.

The visitors only had to wait another 5 minutes to make it 3-0, travelling the length of the field through the Owls like a knife through butter with Pukki once again converting with ease from close range.

Wednesday were clearly deflated and offered little in return and late on their dismal day was compounded when Norwich took advantage of a poor kick by Dawson to play in Srbeny who beat the goalkeeper 1-on-1.

The result leaves Wednesday just 4 points above the relegation zone and they go into next Friday's Steel City Derby on the back of 4 defeats in a row. Alarmingly they have conceded the most goals in the division and have leaked 10 goals in total in the second halves of their last 4 matches.
