Central defender Mark Beevers scooped the Wickes Coca-Cola Championship young apprentice of the year award on Sunday night at the Football League Awards ceremony in London.

Beevers was short-listed for the coveted accolade along with five fellow Championship youngsters- Mark Devonshire (Barnsley), Lee Hills (Crystal Palace), Joe Mattock (Leicester City), Tommy Smith (Ipswich Town) and Anthony Acheampong (Cardiff City).

Along with the award Beevers has netted himself holiday vouchers and also £5,000 for the Owls academy in recognition of their help in his development.

The 18-Year-old made his debut in January 2007 and has become a regular at centre-back this season with his fine displays earning him a recent call-up to the England Under-19's squad.

Last year the award was won by Cardiff youngster Chris Gunter who has since gone on to win full international honours with Wales and now plays in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

Beevers has shown in a short space of time that he has the potential to emulate Gunter's success and hopefully he can do this with the Owls.
