Bitter-sweet news for Sturrock

Last updated : 31 August 2006 By Andy Parsons

American full-back Simek hurt his knee in the defeat to Leeds United on Sunday and there were initial doubts whether he would be able to play down at Roots Hall next Saturday.

Paul Sturrock says it will be ‘touch and go' if the former Arsenal player is fit to start but the injury, a swollen knee, should be ok for the long trip down south.

Meanwhile the verdict on on-loan keeper's Jones red card appeal has been deferred after The Owls video evidence was damaged while in transit from a courier.

The more you see the incident with Jones and David Healy, the more you think it was a penalty so the chances of him being let off are nominal at best from a realistic point of view.

The panel that will be looking at the Australian's dismissal will now view the video next week.
