Bittersweet news over goalkeeper

Norwich's Robert Green, a half-time replacement for David James, pulled up from an innocuous looking goal kick where he slipped and Belarus scored while he was still on the ground in agony.

He was stretchered off and replaced by Carson as England B lost to the Belarusian team 2-1 at Reading last night.

Good news for Carson indeed but with Wednesday asking Liverpool for a mid-June deadline to acquire his services, this could now cause a major stumbling block.

The group games in Germany end on June 20 and should Sven Goran Eriksson's get to the final - Carson could not be available until easily mid-July.

Needless to say that the sooner a decision is made over Carson's future the better for Wednesday fans but there's no doubt you can begrudge the former Leeds player a chance to play in a World Cup.

Eriksson said of Carson: "It's a pity for Green but Carson is a good keeper. He's played at Under-21 level and done well and he has showed he is a good keeper when he came on."
