Sheffield Wednesday have made a move to ease their ever-growing injury problems today by snapping up Tony McMahon on loan from Premier League side Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old right back comes to Hillsborough following the serious injury to Richard Hinds at the weekend. Hinds is expected to be out of action for months while 1st choice right-back Frank Simek is still a few weeks away from contention.

McMahon made only one appearance in the Middlesbrough team last season as a substitute in the 8-1 final day win over Manchester City and he also played twice for Blackpool during a brief loan spell.

His career has also been hit by injury problems in recent seasons following a broken leg in 2005/06.

With the return of Simek possibly in mind the Owls have taken McMahon for just one month at this stage and will hope to complete the formalities of the deal in time to include the defender in the squad for Saturday's fixture at home to in-form Preston.
