Boss hails Owls after derby win

Wednesday put on their best performance for months against their arch rivals from up the M1 and got their first win of the season thanks to a Chris Eagles goal.

Richard Wood won many plaudits and arguably had his best game in a blue and white shirt but in fairness to the back four, they all played well as a collective unit.

Sturrock wanted his players to play like they did last season - without fear and with a high tempo and they did just that.

He told the club's official site: "In the first half everything we'd done on the training ground suddenly clicked into place. You've got to give credit to Leeds. They caused us all sorts of concern and chucked a lot into our box after the break but defensively we were absolutely magnificent."

The supporters created a great occasion and the noise inside the stadium spurred on the players.

"The atmosphere was incredible," added the Owls boss, "to have nearly 30,000 on a Tuesday night is amazing. They made such a noise you didn't hear the Leeds fans all night."
