The 18-year-old recently signed a new four-year deal at Molineux, was due to play in the reserves against Preston yesterday but that was cancelled because of a frozen pitch.

The Owls boss believes that in the current financial climate of football, you have to have one decent goalkeeper and not pay for two highly-paid stoppers.

Since Ola Tidman left the club, Wednesday have used rookie Rob Poulter on the bench as back-up to David Lucas but Sturrock wants more options.

Ikerne had a loan spell with Accrington Stanley in October but if he does well then it is hoped he will sign on loan at Hillsborough for a month.
