QPR striker Jay Bothroyd has told BBC Radio Wales that he didn't enjoy his spell with the Owls at all and stated that he was played out of position. Discussing his time at Hillsborough ahead of the Owls clash with his former club Cardiff on Saturday Bothroyd is quoted as saying that the "They're a League One club that got promoted and the fans need to understand that".
The once-capped England striker went on to state that "As much as they have a lot of history and they've had some great players, the bottom line is they've come from League One and they need to consolidate this season.
From a fans perspective I can safely state that we are aware of where our club is at right now and the majority of supporters will be happy if this season results in consolidation of our Championship place.
Having spent the past 2 seasons in League One and the past decade and more in financial turmoil the fanbase as a whole have been optimistic and rejuvenated by the recent promotion and financial stability brought by Milan Mandaric.
When Bothroyd joined the Owls in September, Wednesday had made a decent start and many expected the addition of a proven, experienced Championship striker to be of benefit to the team.
In the 14 matches that Bothroyd featured in for Wednesday 11 of them resulted in defeat. The Premier League hitman managed just 1 goal in those 1 matches. Since his return to QPR the Owls have lost just 3 of their last 15 league matches.
He may have played out of position for much of his time at S6 but his application and body language hardly did him any favours and the cold hard facts of the results suggest that Wednesday would have been better off without him. Indeed, had the results during Bothroyd's spell been even half as good as the results without him then a season consolidation could well have already been achieved.
Bothroyd didn't enjoy his time with Wednesday, most supporters would state that feeling to be mutual. Some loans don't work out, others do. Leroy Lita and Connor Wickham appear to have fitted in just fine at Hillsborough, making telling contributions so far.
