Bruce does a Bruce on Owls

Wednesday boss walks out, not for the first time

It is often said that a leopard does not change its spots.

As was widely expected following developments over the past few days, Sheffield Wednesday are in need of a new manager. Reports this morning stated that Steve Bruce and has assistants Steve Agnew and Steve Clemmence had offered their resignations and Newcastle United had also sent the Owls £4M as compensation for their impending appointment of Bruce.

As yet neither club have officially confirmed these developments but there would seem no way back for Bruce now and it is surely only a matter of time before he takes over at the Toon.

When Bruce joined the Owls in February there was some talk of this being a job he could see himself in for 3, 4 or 5 years but in a matter of 6 months he is moving on. Although very disappointing it won't come as a huge surprise to many in the football world as Bruce has had past experience of walking out on clubs. Thankfully it seems that Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri covered this in the contract the club gave to the former Manchester United defender given the reported size of the compensation.

Early speculation suggests that former Brighton manager Chris Hughton has ruled himself out of the running for the Hillsborough hotseat and Wednesday will be keen to make the right appointment quickly with the Championship kick off less than 3 weeks away.
