Wednesday Vs QPR: Team news & preview

Sheffield Wednesday bring their Championship season to an end against Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough on Sunday afternoon. After a poor first half of the campaign under former manager Jos Luhukay the Owls have been much improved in 2019 and a win would see them earn a creditable top ten finish.

Manager Steve Bruce has spoken of how pleased he has been with the attitude and form of his new squad since he took over in February and he wants to end the season by finishing as high as possible in the table.

Defender Dominic Iorfa will miss out for the Owls as he starts a 3-match ban following his red card at Preston last weekend. Fellow full-back Achraf Lazaar could return to the squad having been absent with illness at Deepdale.

There has been speculation that Joe Wildsmith could feature for the first time under Bruce with the manager keen to see the young keeper in competitive action. Experienced defender Daniel Pudil has announced he will be laving the Owls this summer and he may be included in the squad for one last time.
Sam Hutchinson and Adam Reach are unlikely to feature due to injury and Barry Bannan may sit this one out rather than risk picking up another booking which would see him suspended at the start of next season.

QPR are likely to be without Joel Lynch due to a hamstring injury while fellow defender Jake Bidwell and Angel Rangel face late fitness tests. Playmaker Luke Freeman and forwards Nakhi Wells and Matt Smith will be in contention for a return to the side having missed out last weekend.

Wednesday have lost 2 of their last 6 games in a spell that has seen them face 3 of the top 6 sides in the division but they have only lost once at home under Steve Bruce. QPR's only win in their last 6 matches was a 4-0 victory over Swansea but they have lost 4 of those 6 matches and have failed to score in their last 2 games.

The Owls were well beaten in a 3-0 defeat at Loftus Road when the two teams last met back in October and Rangers took a point from a 1-1 on their last visit to Hillsborough in August 2017.
