With Sheffield Wednesday not in action until Wednesday, Tuesday saw the majority of the Championship teams play and the three teams at the top maintained their fine form.

Blackburn remain top on 14 points but had to rely on a late goal to see off the challenge of unfancied Barnsley at Ewood Park. Blackpool are a point behind thanks to a thumping 4-1 win at home to Middlesbrough and a Craig Mackail-Smith penalty was enough to see Brighton keep up the pace with a win at Watford.

Hull and Cardiff also enjoyed away wins with the Tigers coming from behind to beat Leeds and the pair are also on 13 points. Nottingham Forest complete the top six places and are on 10 points thanks to a late equaliser at Crystal Palace.

At the bottom Peterborough slumped to their 6th successive league defeat this season, losing 2-1 at home to Bristol City. They are 5 points adrift of both Ipswich and Charlton, though Ipswich will have the opportunity to improve their position when they host Wolves on Wednesday evening. Charlton were beaten 3-2 at Derby despite a spirited late comeback having been outplayed for most of the first hour of the contest.

The Owls are currently in 14th place ahead of their Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield at Hillsborough. The Terriers are a point ahead of Wednesday and so a win for either side would see them stay in touch with the play off places but defeat would leave them closer to the bottom 3 than they would wish to be, even at this early stage of the season.
