Bullen amazed at Crossley heroics - exclusive

Wednesday played ok, not great by any means but got a decent point thanks to Crossley's stoppage time header to make the score 3-3.

The Owls were trailing 3-2 with Glenn Whelan brilliantly grabbing both of the home side's goals when Crossley came up for a late corner to power a header past opposite number Kelvin Davis to send the home crowd into raptures.

Bullen said: "I haven't seen anything quite like that, I have played in a game where the goalkeeper has scored in the last minute but that was against us when I was playing in Hong Kong but I am absolutely delighted for Mark Crossley. He played 70, maybe 75 percent fit but for him to pop up right at the end was excellent."

Overall, the performance was not as good as last week's where Birmingham came out with a 3-0 victory despite being outplayed but the captain thinks that Wednesday showed lots of character yesterday.

He added: "
If you take in the evidence of last week, Southampton were a much better side that Birmingham. Last week we played tremendously well and got nothing out of the game where against Southampton, we played in fits and starts and got the equaliser.

"
They controlled the game for most of it, the two lads up front were the best I have come across this season and caused problems because of their abilities in the air but we kept at it, created and played better and got camped in their half a bit more in the second half but they were always set to catch us on the counter attack, just like they did with the third goal. It was a tough game and we can play better than what we did but having said that, it was great for it to finish the way it did."

More from Lee later in the week, but I would like to say on behalf of myself and everyone at Footymad, have a very merry Christmas break.
