Leeds Vs Wednesday: Team news & preview

Sheffield Wednesday make the short trip to West Yorkshire on Saturday to face Leeds United at Elland Road. The clash sees two teams that have fell well short of expectations this season go head to head with the visitors still casting a wary eye over their shoulder at the relegation zone.

Jos Luhukay may be able to pick 3 key players for the first time since taking over at Hillsborough in January. Centre-back Joost Van Aken, holding midfielder Sam Hutchinson and playmaker Barry Bannan have all been involved in first team training throughout the week and are expected to be in the squad. Wednesday will still be without more than half a dozen key first team regulars however and young midfielder Sean Clare joined the list of players sidelined this week as he was ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury.

Leeds Manager Paul Heckingbottom is likely to choose from the same squad that drew 2-2 at Reading last weekend. The home side will be without injured players Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper Kemar Roofe and Andy Lonergan.

Both sides are in poor form coming into the game. The Owls have won just once in the league this year and haven’t picked up an away win since Boxing Day. Leeds have not had much of a lift under their new manager either, Paul Heckingbottom has picked up only 1 win since leaving Barnsley for Elland Road in early February.

Wednesday enjoyed a 3-0 win at home to Leeds in one of their best performances of the season in October but have only won once in their last 9 visits to Elland Road and were beaten 1-0 last season.
