Captain not fully committed?

Sheffield Wednesday skipper Richard Wood has been the subject of intense transfer speculation over the last few days and following today's draw at Swansea Owls manager Brian Laws confirmed to BBC radio Sheffield that the player has handed in a transfer request.

Coventry City showed an interest in the centre back during the close season and have been rumoured to be looking to complete the signing before the transfer window closes on September 1st.

Wood is the longest serving player in the current squad and was given the captaincy of the clubs by Laws in the summer.

Laws has said that the Owls young players are not for sale as he hopes to build a future for the club around them and that Wood knows and understands this.

Despite this being the case the news is likely to unsettle the club and concern the supporters. How would you feel if the player given the honour and responsibility of leading you on the field asked to leave just a few weeks later?

Following a recent takeover Coventry are thought to have stabilised their position financially but like Wednesday they struggled last season and have hardly set the division alight so far this campaign.

Many fans will see this as a slap in the face given that the clubs are in a not too dissimilar position and Wood was offered and took the privileged role of Captain at the club recently, a position you would expect was given with stability and a log-term vision in mind.
