Captain reaffirms commitment

Sheffield Wednesday Captain Richard Wood has spoken of his commitment to the club and his pride in his role as skipper following his recent transfer request.

Wood told the clubs official website that he has "always given 100% effort for Sheffield Wednesday and will continue to do so throughout my career with the club."

As was widely rumoured, although news of his transfer request was only officially made public following the game at Swansea the request was actually made-and subsequently turned down a couple of weeks earlier, around the time of the crushing defeat at Wolves.

As the transfer deadline approached during this time it came to light that Coventry City were showing an interest in taking Wood to the Ricoh Arena.

Wood has already been backed publicly by manager Brian Laws and club captain Steve Watson and although he has not divulged his reasons for handing in the request he has stressed that nobody at the club as at odds with anyone over this issue and he is right behind the manager and focussed on being successful in the upcoming fixtures.

Although I don't question that Wood will be fully committed and focussed on the field in forthcoming games it will be understandable if some supporters feel uneasy about him leading the club given that, for whatever reason, he has shown a desire to be elsewhere and the only known real interest has come from a club that as things stand, are in a similar position to the Owls.
