The Stoke game will be played on Saturday 6 August while Hull come to town on Tuesday 9 August.
Paul Sturrock faces his old team Southampton on Saturday 13 August at Hillsborough before a difficult-looking away trip to Ipswich the following weekend.
The return of the Steel City derby takes place on Saturday 3 December at Bramall Lane with the home game coming on Saturday 18 February.
Other games to look out for are Leeds United at home on Tuesday 13 September and away on Saturday 21 January.
The Owls face Preston away on Boxing Day, Crewe at home in the first game of 2006 and finish the season at home to Reading and then away at Derby County.
