Coughlan's new player warning - exclusive

The Irish defender, popular with fans because of his never-say-die attitude, knows that players will come in during the break although they may not have it their own way if they think that their places in the team are guaranteed.

Wednesday will have restrictions to who they can and cannot sign this season due to financial restraints but the budget for players wages has been increased to make sure the club are more competitive.

Coughlan told Footymad: "There's been a lot of talk about Paul Sturrock getting all sorts of money but I don't read much into that but we will wait and see and actions can sometimes speak louder than words. We will look forward to see what sort of player he does bring in during the summer.

"We know though that the club has one hand tied behind its back with the finances but we are not going to panic because we have faith in Paul to bring in one or two players.

"But they will have competition and quality up against them for shirts and players who have played at the club and experienced in the division already. The key to improving the football club is to improve on the league placing year in, year out and I think that this club can do that next season."
