Defender makes return

Richard Wood made his return to action for the Owls second string in a 2-0 victory over Lincoln on Tuesday.

The young centre-back has been out of action since dislocating a shoulder in the 2-1 home defeat to Scunthorpe back in November.

Wood, who was on the bench for the first team at Derby last Sunday but did not feature, will be pushing for a return to the starting eleven having come through the 90 minutes for the reserves unscathed.

His return is a timely one for the Owls who are short on numbers defensively and have important league and cup games on the horizon. Wednesday are without Frank Simek through injury and have also recently lost a centre back in Michael Johnson, who returned to Derby upon completion of his loan spell.

Youngster Mark Beevers has played well since breaking into the first team this season but the Owls will be relieved to have more defensive options available as clean sheets have been few and far between of late, the last one coming in the 0-0 draw at Southampton seven games ago.
