Defender returns to parent club

Middlesbrough have today recalled their right-back Tony McMahon from his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

The defender initially joined the Owls on a one-month emergency loan and impressed enough to earn an extension to the maximum period of 93 days.

He had served a total of 65 days with Wednesday and with a three-match suspension for his dismissal at Barnsley just about to start the move could actually work in Wednesdays favour as if Middlesbrough do decide to let him return to Hillsborough in the coming weeks then he would still apparently be eligible to complete his remaining 28 days of the deal.

McMahon came in to deputise for long-term injury victim Frank Simek and he produced a number of impressive displays for the Owls. His one major error came in the South Yorkshire derby at Barnsley on Tuesday evening when he was sent-off for a rash lunge in the first half.
