Defensive ins and outs at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday signed a much needed centre-back on a permanent deal while at the same time allowing another defender to depart.

Vincent Sasso, who spent last season on loan with the Owls, has signed what is reported to be a 1-year contract for an undisclosed fee, moving from Portuguese side SC Braga.

Sasso spent most of last season on loan at Hillsborough though a knee injury restricted him to 19 appearances.

Wednesday have been in need of central defensive cover for some time with Glenn Loovens having picked up an injury in pre-season. Tom lees sat out Tuesday's game at Burton with a minor knock and defensive midfielder Jose Semedo had to plug the gap. He got injured during the game forcing Liam Palmer to left-back with Daniel Pudil playing as a makeshift centre-half.

Meanwhile Darryl Lachman has moved away from the Owls on-loan. The tall centre-back joined Wednesday from FC Twente last summer but has hardly had a look in for the first team under Carlos Carvalhal and even at the start of this season with the Owls short of central defenders he has failed to break into the squad.

Lachman will spend the whole of the current season back in Holland with top flight team Willem II.
