Double blow for Wednesday

Former Derby striker Tudgay had an operation to repair severed toe tendons after walking over a piece of broken glass at a family party over the weekend.

He will be out now for at the very least two months but when he gets back to full match fitness could be October.

Meanwhile Talbot, who missed the entire campaign with a back problem, has been suffering with knee trouble which is suspected to be either a strained ligament or even worse, a torn cartilage.

The news leaves Paul Sturrock clearly exasperated with the current injury crisis at Hillsborough with Steve Adams, John Hills, Richard Wood and Peter Gilbert all set to miss the start of the new season.

But good news for the likes of youngsters Tommy Spurr and Sean McAlister who will fly with The Owls to the USA next week for a three-game tour – as well as many other members of the academy because of the current injury situation.
