Duo aim for high finish - exclusive

A win for The Owls could see them finish as high as 18th position after avoiding relegation two weeks ago at Brighton.

So with no worries regarding relegation to think about, club captain Bullen is hoping to send the 5000 Wednesday fans at Pride Park back up the road happy.

He told Footymad: "I touched on it earlier that we wouldn't want to go to Derby wanting something, it wouldn't have been what we wanted. If you said a couple of months ago that we would be safe with a few games left, I would have snapped your hand off.

"We went into the Reading game without the stress of having to get something, especially in the second half we played well and should have won it but down at Derby we have a sell-out crowd behind us and it will be a carnival atmosphere. Granted both teams are safe but both teams would admit that they are not in a position that they would want to be in. Hopefully it is a good game, it'll be a great atmosphere and the fans will enjoy it – it's one to look forward to."

On-form striker Burton meanwhile is excited about the prospect of going back to one of his former clubs and is hopeful of a good Wednesday result.

He added: "I will probably get a few boos at Derby. I was there six years, I really enjoyed the first few four years but not the last two because of injuries but it will be good to go down there and get some points on the board. We are only a few points behind them so if we can go there and beat them to finish the season on a high that will be great.

"The pressure is off us but if we needed something from Derby I am confident that we would have gone there and done the job. Looking forward, the plan for next season is to obviously is to learn from our mistakes this season, build on them and then to finish much higher."

The former Rams and Portsmouth star though has been impressed with some performances by his teammates since joining from Rotherham in January, especially some of the younger players.

He added: "I would have to say that Frankie Simek has been a good player but Burton O'Brien has done very well done the left also. Glenn Whelan has also done well in midfield and so has Chris Brunt. Marcus Tudgay has been fine and helps me out up front with the high balls and we have hit it off well."

Simek and Brunt will miss out at Derby - they went under the knife earlier in the week while Graham Coughlan is suffering from a throat abscess while John Hills pulled his hamstring against Reading.
