Duo released

Paul Sturrock made the decision to release the pair after they failed to impress him following his appointment as manager.

Both players leaving Hillsborough comes as no surprise as benchwarmer Ndumbu, last season’s player of the year, has been loaned out to Preston while Armstrong has been fortunate just to make the squad.

Ndumbu did well for Wednesday last season but Sturrock felt he was too inconsistent, and with the signing of James Quinn to bolster the attacking options which already include Steve MacLean, Lee Peacock and Adam Proudlock - it put the 22-year-old as fifth-place striker.

Armstrong on the other hand has been very disappointing at The Owls. Signed under Terry Yorath on a lucrative pre-ITV Digital contract, he has been very ordinary at best and his departure will not worry Wednesdayites too much.

Thanks for the memories Guylain, you did please the crowds on occasions – unfortunately Craig was not that popular!
