Evans speaks on comeback battle

The left-winger signed from Birmingham City at the back end of the 2002-2003 season impressed Wednesdayites with his pace, natural skill and crossing ability on his arrival from St. Andrews.

But despite starting last season, he picked up a nasty knee injury early on and was then ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Evans, along with fellow injury victim Matt Hamshaw, made his comeback in a friendly with Rotherham United a few days after the end of last season and has been slowly making progress by playing in the reserves.

He believes that performing well for the second string can help him out and when he does get any sort of first-team opportunity, he will grab it with both hands.

Evans told Footymad: "I am working my way back to fitness at the moment really and I need all the match practice I can get to be honest so I can try to get back into the squad.

"I have had three outings for the reserves which I needed so I am getting sharper and just waiting to hopefully be given my chance and take it when it comes."

Being young and injured can be a daunting experience for a player at the best of times but Evans is keeping his spirits up, especially after Chris Turner kept him at the club last season following the summer cull.

He continued: "It has been hard being out for so long and very frustrating not training with the lads. I have been doing lots of physio work to push myself along but I am very pleased so far with how I am feeling.

"I am not too far off being fully fit at the moment. The reserve games have been great for me so when I am called upon I want to repay the manager’s faith in my by performing on the pitch."
