Ex-Owl scores cup final goal

Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Steven MacLean wrote his name into Scottish football history on Saturday. His goal sealed a 2-0 win for St Johnstone against Dundee United at Celtic Park in the clubs first ever appearance in the Scottish Cup Final.

MacLean was a fans favourite at Hillsborough when he joined Wednesday from Glasgow Rangers in 2004. He bagged 20 goals in his first season with the Owls and his vital penalty in the 2005 play-off final hepled to clinch the Owls promotion to the Championship.

The Scottish striker then suffered a broken leg in pre-season which saw him miss most of the 2005/06 campain but he returned to hit 13 goals the following season as Wednesday finished in 9th place, their highest finish since relegation from the Premier League in 2000.
