First team players out to make an impact

Sheffield Wednesday reserves travel to the Riverside stadium this evening and there should be plenty of interest in the performance of the team.

This is because the Owls have named a squad containing many first team players who will be looking to make a positive impression in their quest to get their chance in the Championship again.

Francis Jeffers has struggled to make an impact since his long awaited return from injury and is set for a run out, as is Akpo Sodje. The talisman striker has been restricted to fleeting substitute appearances recently following his comeback from the treatment table and it is something of a surprise to see Leon Clarke keeping them both out of the first team. Deon Burton who has been out of form and out of favour of late is also included in the squad.

At the back Frank Simek is all set to take another step along his cautious road to recovery and Peter Gilbert may feature.
Winger Wade Small should play and youngster Rocky Lekaj will be aiming to continue his fine form for the reserves having found the net nine times in just eight games.

Wednesday were unconvincing in victory over Doncaster at the weekend and any player putting in a good performance tonight combined with the right application in training throughout the week could be in contention to feature, at least from the bench at Derby on Saturday.
