Honours even at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday and Watford played out a 0-0 draw at Hillsborough on Saturday as both sides continued their unbeaten starts to the 2020-21 season.

Having made 11 changes for the League Cup tie at Rochdale in midweek Gary Monk reverted back to the side that won at Cardiff last weekend. Watford remained without a number of first team regulars but still fielded a strong side including the likes of Ben Foster, Craig Cathcart, Tom Cleverley and Glenn Murray.

The home side started the game on the front foot and spent much of the first 20 minutes insides the Hornets half of the field. Josh Windass struck a couple of shots off target and Iorfa should have done better with a header from a Brown free-kick that he failed to direct on target.

Watford hardly posed a threat but for one strike that was straight at Dawson and the Owls almost opened the scoring just before half-time when Lees glanced a header against the outside of a post.

The game took a different pattern in the second half with Watford much more of a threat. Dawson saved well from Perica and Cleverley while Wednesday's attacks became much more sporadic with Brown heading wide from a Palmer cross late on.

A share of the spoils seemed fair reward for an evenly fought contest with few clear cut chances at either end. The point moves Wednesday to within 8 points of the pack at the bottom of the Championship and extends their run without conceding a goal to 4 games in league and cup at the start of the season.
