Grant all set to start the season on the bench

Lee Grant has today, as was expected, completed his move from Sheffield Wednesday to Championship side Burnley, signing a three-year contract with the Lancashire club.

The fee paid for Grant’s services remains unknown and time will tell if the Owls are to make use of the income to pay off their debts to HMRC and possibly bring in another goalkeeper bearing in mind that both Richard O’Donnell and Arron Jameson lack any real experience at professional level.

27-year-old Grant spent a brief spell on loan at Turf Moor in 2005 and is hoping for a much longer stay this time around. Speaking via the official club website, www.burnleyfootballclub.com he stated that he had been at Wednesday for a long time and had three really good years with the club although last season didn’t end up the way he would have liked.

Interestingly Burnley manager Brian Laws indicated that Grant may have to bide his time before getting a chance in the starting 11, commenting that “Brian (Jensen) is going to have some competition next season and I’m sure he’ll relish that. He has obviously been here a long time and I am expecting him to start the season …. It’s his shirt to lose.”

Burnley are amongst the favourites with the bookies to gain promotion back to the Premier League this coming season despite the fact that Laws led them to 15 defeats from 19 games when he took the reigns in the last campaign as they were relegated from the top flight after one season.
