Wednesday field inexperienced defence against strong Everton side

Sheffield Wednesday face Everton in an 8pm kick-off in the 4th round of the FA Cup tonight and caretaker manager Neil Thompson has fielded a number of young players.

Ryan Galvin, Ciaran Brennan and Osaze Urhoghide are included in the back-line and new signing Andre Green will play in attack following his recent move to Hillsborough. Brennan and Galvin played in the 3rd round win at Exeter but this represents a significant step up as they will come up against England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brazilian international Richarlison. Urhoghide featured in last seasons cup win at Premier League Brighton but has not played for the first team this season.

Julian Borner’s return does provide some experience in the defence and Wednesday have Harris Bannan, Reach, Pelupessy and Paterson in the team further forward. Joe Wildsmith continues in goal.

In addition to the aforementioned forwards, Everton have a strong line-up throughout their side with the likes of Coleman, Mina, Rodriguez, Gomes and Sigurdsson all included.

Wednesday have not played since winning 2-0 at Exeter in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. They have since had two league matches postponed due to a COVID outbreak.
