Helan here to stay with Owls

Sheffield Wednesday have beaten off competition to complete the permanent signing of Manchester City youngster Jeremy Helan.

The Frenchman spent a productive spell on loan with the Owls last season, featuring 28 times and he has now returned to Hillsborough. The 21-year-old had attracted plenty of interest with the likes of Wolves and Watford looking closely at capturing his services but he has chosen to team up with Dave Jones' side once again.

Helan, who has signed a 4-year contract at S6, is adept at playing as either a winger or as an attacking full-back as he showed at times last season when he interchanged with Reda Johnson on the left-hand side.

Wednesday now have no shortage of pace in wide areas with Helan, Jermaine Johnson, Michail Antonio and Jacques Maghoma to choose from.

It is likely that signing a goal scorer before the start of the season will remain Wednesday's priority but the likes of Antonio and Maghoma proved last season that they are capable of grabbing goals and either could be utilised in a more central role if required next season given the options the club now have in wide areas.
