Home point is two points dropped for Owls

Sheffield Wednesday again failed to capitalise despite having the better of the play at Hillsborough as Huddersfield Town scored late on to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw.

The Owls were on top from the start but failed to take their chances, Lavery volleying powerfully over the bar when well place and McGugan stabbing wide from the edge of the area. The visitors seemed happy to try and contain the Owls without offering too much of an attacking threat but they almost stole the lead just before the break when Vermijl was forced to clear off the line from Edgar after the ball dropped to the defender from a corner.

Wednesday continued to come forward after the break and should really have taken the lead after 50 minutes. Nuhiu produced a fine piece of skill to outfox Smithies in the Town goal but having beaten the keeper the big striker didn't hit his shot with any conviction, allowing Lynch to clear off the line.

Despite the influential McGugan continuing to pull the strings the home side had to wait until 4 minutes from time to get the breakthrough that they deserved, a good passing move saw Vermijl break into the Terriers box and deliver a fine low cross. Substitute Sergiu Bus saw his initial effort saved but reacted well to fire home from close range.

Huddersfield reacted well to falling behind and found a goal to share the spoils within a couple of minutes, again through a substitute striker. A long ball forward was won in the air by Vaughan and fell for Ishmael Miller who made no mistake in beating Westwood from close range.

The match pretty much sums up the Owls season at Hillsborough, enjoying a large share of the play but failing to take their chances and paying the price for not doing so. Wednesday have drawn 10 of their 20 home games, winning just 4 and scoring just 13 times on home soil.
