In-form Owls need to follow up cup success

Sheffield Wednesday travel to Brentford on Saturday full of confidence following their midweek Capital One Cup win at Newcastle but they need to continue to pick up results in the Championship in order to climb into the top half of the table.

Coach Carlos Carvalhal has just one injury concern. Influential forward Fernando Forestieri has been carrying a hamstring injury and a late decision will be made regarding his fitness.

Carvalhal has suggested that Wednesday evening’s victory took a lot out of those involved and it is likely that the Owls will field a similar team to the one that beat Fulham last weekend. Westwood, Turner, Pudil, Nuhiu, Wallace and Bannan are all likely to return and Sam Hutchinson is backing in contention having served a suspension.

Brentford have been dealt with something of an injury crisis with manager Marinus Dijkhuizen potentially without the services of up to 10 players, including influential playmaker Jota and summer signings Josh McEachran and Andreas Bjelland.

James Tarkowski and Marcos Tebar could both return for the Bees.

The Owls have not won away in the Championship this season but League Cup victory at Newcastle on Wednesday came on the back of a home win against Fulham.

Brentford picked up their first home win of the season against Preston last weekend, a result which brought to an end a run of 4 games without a win. The Bees have picked up 8 points from their 7 games to date and are 1 point behind the Owls.

The two sides drew 0-0 at GriffinPark last season and Wednesday enjoyed a 1-0 win at Hillsborough when the teams last faced each other in April.
