Iron Vs Owls: Team news

Sheffield Wednesday travel to Scunthorpe in the Coca-Cola Championship on Wednesday evening looking to continue new manager Alan Irvine’s perfect record.

Wednesday have recorded three wins from three under their new boss and look set to name an unchanged line up from the one that beat Peterborough United 2-1 at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Midfielder Tom Soares has extended his loan spell at the club from Stoke City until the end of the season and will keep his place in the team. The Owls did not pick up any fresh injuries or suspensions at the weekend and so Irvine is unlikely to tinker with a winning side although striker Francis Jeffers is closing in on a return to fitness and could sneak a place on the bench.

Scunthorpe are also likely to remain unchanged after they produced a highly respectable display in exiting the F.A. Cup and the hands of Premier League big spenders Manchester City on Sunday. The front pairing of Gary Hooper and Paul Hayes are likely to cause problems for the Owls defence and they are likely to have the option of introducing pace to the attack from the bench in the form of ex-Sheffield United front man Jonathan Forte.

The Iron have made in addition to their ranks this week in the form of young Manchester City winger Donal McDermott who has signed on loan until the end of the season and he is expected to take a place on the bench.

Wednesday travel to Glanford Park having won three in succession under Alan Irvine including two away victories and these results have seen them climb to 20th place in the Championship, 1 place and 1 point above Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe have been on an indifferent run of form recently having won 2, lost 2 and drawn 3 of their last 7 league fixtures, they have won 5 and lost 4 of their 12 home league games so far this season.

The Owls cruised to a 4-0 home win over Scunthorpe back in August and they earned a 1-1 draw on their last visit to Glanford Park in April 2008 as they struggled towards Championship safety. In their 5 competitive visits to Scunthorpe United Wednesday have won 1, lost 1 and drawn 3.
