Is Owls boss on borrowed time?

Sheffield Wednesday’s winless run in the Championship stretched to nine games last night thanks to a 1-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers. The defeat was Wednesday’s 7th during this poor streak meaning that they have now picked up just 2 points from a possible 27 which has seen them slip into 23rd place in the league table.

Owls Chairman Milan Mandaric is not renowned for his patience when it comes to his teams’ results; indeed he chose to relieve Gary Megson of his services after a run of 4 straight defeats last season before bringing in Jones who helped to propel the team to promotion from League One. Megson actually win his last game in charge, against bitter rivals and fellow promotion contenders Sheffield United but the poor run that preceded that win meant that his days in the Hillsborough hot seat were already numbered.

Wednesday travel to bottom of the table Ipswich Town on Saturday who sacked former Owls manager Paul Jewell yesterday on the back of a home defeat to Derby County. If Wednesday were to suffer another loss this weekend that would push them to the bottom of the table and extend their winless run into double figures.
