Jones looks back on Owls spell - exclusive

The Australian stopper, at Hillsborough since the start of the season, left the club after the weekend's game against Leicester City following his three-month loan spell expiring - he has been replaced by Fulham's Mark Crossley who signed for Wednesday yesterday evening.

But from what he has seen from The Owls, especially in recent games, potentially they can go on to bigger and better things.

He told Footymad: "If Wednesday keeps going the way they have been going in the last few games, there's no reason why the club can't even make the play-offs. For some reason we seem to play better against the big teams so that proves that we are a decent side. The last few games have been unbelievable; we have overrun teams, so if they keep that up I can't see any reason why they can't get a really good position.

"We have had a good run of results in the last four or five games so it's good that the boys have turned the corner now, the crowd have recognised that and all of a sudden there is a buzz around the place, so hopefully it will continue."

Jones will be the first to admit his form has been up and down but playing every week has been a major plus point for the stopper.

He added: "Personally, I feel my form has gone along with the team. We started off ok, had a bit of a dip and then came good again. But it's good for me to play regular football and good to go out on a high.

"The reason why I came here was to play first-team football. Last season was good, I played quite a few games for Boro, this summer I knew my chances would be limited so I came here and played a lot so hopefully I can take that onboard and take that back to Boro.

"It's been great playing every week and playing every week in a very tough league because there is always something to learn so hopefully everything what I have picked up here I can take back with me and put towards the future.

"Me getting back into the Boro side all depends on whether Mark Schwarzer stays fit or not, if he doesn't then obviously I will get a go but at the moment I know I will be on the bench and that's what I'm expecting. But if I do get my chance then hopefully I can take it."
