Jones out!

Sheffield Wednesday’s first permanent move in the January transfer window sees Daniel Jones move away from Hillsborough.

It was announced on Thursday that the left-back’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent.

The 26-year-old who joined the Owls in the summer of 2010 and made a total of 50 first team appearances for the club has now joined League Two promotion contenders Port Vale.

Jones had a spell in the side near the beginning of the season when Reda Johnson was injured but following Reda’s return he has fallen to third choice left-back in the Owls pecking order behind Joe Mattock and his chances of first team football at Hillsborough appeared limited.

It has been widely reported that Wednesday need to reduce the wage bill in order to bring players in this month. Whether this deal has done enough to allow that to happen remains to be seen.
