The Scottish winger was taken off at half time during the Bradford defeat with the problem and admits he found it difficult to do anything during the next few days.

But the former Celtic and Sheffield United wideman says that it was good work from the medical team at Hillsborough to get him match-fit for the Saltergate clash.

He told Footymad: “I was struggling big time to be honest after the
Bradford game. It was good work from the physiotherapist, John Dickens who helped me out. I was in during every morning and afternoon of last week for treatment.

“I wasn’t confident at all that I would even be able to make the bench at the weekend because the Sunday and Monday after the Bradford game I could hardly bend down to put my socks on but I got some great treatment and it all worked out good for me.”

McGovern though is more than happy with his personal form and becoming a fixture on the team sheet at Hillsborough – as he has become one of the most consistent players in Paul Sturrock’s squad.

“I am happy to be playing every week at the moment,” he said. “I came here not expecting to play every game that’s for sure but I take each game as it comes to be honest and if the team’s winning I am happy enough with that than my own personal form – it’s not about me at the end of the day it’s about
Sheffield Wednesday.

“I am more settled now (than when I was when I was at United) because I am in a settled side, playing every week and know I have time left on my deal here so that makes you feel better.”
