Laws angry following Dutch tour

Brunt was sent off against the Dutch team, who have qualified for the UEFA Cup, for a late challenge which Brian Laws described as 'nothing sinister'.

Apparently the referee had been warned about Wednesday's seemingly aggressive play from a previous official who sent off Deon Burton against Heerenveen.

Marcus Tudgay scored in the last minute to seal a 1-1 draw against Groningen but Laws could now be without Burton and Brunt for the opening games of the season depending on what the referee's reports state.

But the fact Wade Small and Leon Clarke were subject to racist abuse made sure the tour ended very negatively.

Laws has stated that the players heard racial comments while in the corner of the pitch from some Dutch supporters - a fact quite ironic when you look at all the quality black players Holland have had in the past.

The Owls manager will be talking to chairman Dave Allen this week regarding his search for a striker, and a 'big name' is set to come on trial at Middlewood very soon.

Various forwards have been linked, even former Barcelona, Milan and Holland striker Patrick Kluivert has been touted to move to Hillsborough.

The 31-year-old was released from PSV at the end of an injury-plagued season and reports state that Wednesday are very interested in landing the star, who has won the Champions League and 79 caps for his national tem.
