2 of Wednesday’s 3 Papa John’s opponents confirmed

Sheffield Wednesday’s relegation to League One sees them compete in the Papa John’s EFL trophy next season and the draw for the initial group stage has commenced and will be completed on Thursday 24th June.

The Owls will face Mansfield Town and Harrogate Town while the 4th team in the group will be a Premier League under 21 team from the northern section, either Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Leicester City, Everton, Newcastle United, Leeds United or Wolves.

Mansfield finished 16th in League Two last season with Harrogate in 17th. The Owls endured an eventful trip to Mansfield for a pre-season game in 2018 with the match ending in a 40-man brawl.

The first round of group matches will take place during the week commencing 30th August.
