Lee set for Hartlepool return - exclusive

The former Victoria Park defender injured his groin and was out for a few weeks and should have returned against Tranmere at the weekend but suffered a reoccurance in training.

Lee explained to Footymad: "I tried to train last week in an attempt to be back for the Tranmere game and I have made it slightly worse by trying to come back too early, I thought I was ready but I wasn’t and it’s disappointing but it has only put me back a week or so. Hopefully we can assess it this week and then see what happens.

"It’s most likely that I will return against Hartlepool rather than the Oldham game at the moment so fingers crossed that it settles down quickly and I can get back in the team because I am getting quite frustrated because I am not playing."

Injuries have certainly been a problem since the defender followed Chris Turner from the north east at the start of last season but when he has played - he has been one of the club's most consistent players.

He added: "The current injury I have is a problem which I have had for the last few weeks and leading up to signing for Wednesday, I hadn’t been injured for four years so you could say I have had a bit of a nightmare injury-wise! But I just want to get out there, I don’t like watching and I am desperate to play in the big games in front of the big crowds.

"We need to start picking up points now. It’s getting very tight at the top and we need to secure our place in the play-offs. I think against Tranmere we were back on form and played really well, especially in the first half - we are playing well enough to be winning games more frequently."
