Wednesday's star striker, who was in excellent form last season, scored the equalising goal for The Owls in their play-off decider against Hartlepool.

It was thought that MacLean would not even be fit to play in the Cardiff clash after seemingly being ruled out for the season in April.

The former Rangers star will be back a week before the majority of the players so he can get fit and continue his rehabilitation.

Other players who will cut short their summer holidays will be Craig Rocastle, Adam Proudlock and Steve Adams.

All suffered injury problems last season and Paul Sturrock wants the quartet to be given as much preparation time as possible to be ready for the new season.
