Mixed news on injury front for Owls

Sheffield Wednesday have been boosted by the news that some of their seemingly ever-growing injury problems may be coming to an end.

Owls manager Stuart Gray revealed in Friday's pre-match press conference that midfielders Kieran Lee and David Prutton are likely to be available for selection for Saturday's home match against Birmingham City.

Wednesday were left short of options in midfield in midweek as they lost at Wigan with Prutton not fit to start after a long injury lay-off, Lee and Semedo sidelined through injury and Sam Hutchinson suspended for what would have been the last match of his loan spell from Chelsea.

Hutchinson has since extended his loan deal by a further month meaning he is also in contention to start on Saturday and it is hoped that Semedo will be ready to return when this spell ends next month.

Further good news came in the form of Chris Kirkland also being set to return from the sidelines. The former England goalkeeper, who has once again been one of Wednesday's most consistent performers this season, has missed the last two matches, both of which have resulted in defeats.

The bad news is that popular left-back Reda Johnson still appears some way off a return to first team action and while Joe Mattock has returned to training he is not yet ready to play. Jeremy Helan has looked assured in that position recently though and is likely to continue in their absence.

Midfielder Gary Gardner is to return to Aston Villa following the end of his 28-day loan deal. Gardner had failed to make the same impression as Hutchinson during his time at the club.
