Kavanagh, joins The Owls on a month's loan from Sunderland and he could be a vital player for Wednesday with his tenacious box-to-box style.

The 33-year-old former Republic of Ireland international, who will wear the same shirt number as his age, has found it hard to break into the Black Cats' team this season although Sunderland boss Roy Keane believes that Kavanagh is still part of his plans.

Lee Bullen will have a late fitness test while Peter Gilbert could miss out with a knock but it is expected that the two new boys will go straight into the team.

Kavanagh will take Kenny Lunt's place in midfield while Johnson could start in place Steve Watson or Richard Wood.

Brian Laws may also juggle his strike duo around with the Akpo Sodje / Franny Jeffers partnership drawing blanks in the last two games with Marcus Tudgay and Deon Burton ready to take their places.
