Wednesday beaten by Blades

Sheffield Wednesday’s under 23 side were given a hiding by their Sheffield United counterparts on Friday afternoon at Middlewood Road. The two sides had recently played out a 1-1 draw at Shirecliffe but the young Owls suffered a heavy home defeat this time around as the Blades won 4-0.

Wednesday fielded a strong side with first team squad members including Alex Hunt, Matt Penney, Kadeem Harris, Andre Green, Elias Kachunga and Izzy Brown in the starting line up. None of them managed to make a positive impression and make a claim for more first team involvement and the visitors took the lead midway through the first half through Femi Seriki.

The second half was one way traffic as N’Diaye scored twice to make it 3-0 with still 25 minutes to go. Worse was to follow for the home side as Brown received a red card in the final ten minutes before Lowe rubbed salt into the wounds with a late fourth goal.

Much like the first team, it has largely been a season of struggle for the Owls under 23’s and they are now without a win in six matches.
