Owls aiming to end the year on a high

Sheffield Wednesday travel to Wigan on Tuesday evening, looking for a 2nd successive victory that would see them end 2014 in the top half of the Championship table.

Wigan recorded their first win under Malky Mackay at Leeds last time out and will be hoping to build on that result.

The Owls will give a late fitness test to captain Glenn Loovens and if the centre-back fails to prove his fitness then Claude Dielna is likely to keep his place. Fellow defenders Kamil Zayatte are close to a return to fitness but are not expected to be in the starting line up.

Royston Drenthe and Lewis McGugan are likely to play in what would be their last appearance for the Owls in their current loan spells.

Wigan are without defender Leon Barnett due to a hamstring problem and striker Martyn Waghorn is not yet up to full fitness following an injury lay-off. Former Wednesday striker Grant Holt has returned from a loan spell at Huddersfield but a knee injury is likely to keep him out of the match against his former club.

Wednesday recorded a narrow 2-1 win over the Latics at Hillsborough last month but were defeated thanks to a late penalty on their last visit to the DW Stadium last season.
