Owls announce new Captain(s)

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has revealed that the Owls will have two Captains for the forthcoming season.

Speaking on the club's official site Laws stated that in addition to having one on-field leader "we want a club captain as well and on the senior side I have given that to Steve Watson."

Watson, who has a wealth of experience, will deal with most public relations duties on behalf of the club and as such he takes over the role that was previously held by the now departed Lee Bullen.

The idea is that this will allow the 1st team Captain Richard Wood to concentrate on leading the team on the pitch. With Bullen missing a large chunk of last season through injury, Wood led a fairly inexperienced back four well last term and it is little surprise that he has been given this honour.

Wood is Wednesday's longest serving player by some distance and hopefully this decision will emphasise the high regard in which he is held at the club and deter recent suitors including Coventry City.
