Owls are masters of Sheffield but not Yorkshire

Sheffield Wednesday lost to Barnsley in the final of the Yorkshire Masters tournament at the Sheffield Arena on Sunday for the second year in succession. The Owls lost out by two goals to one with Andy Liddell scored twice for the Tykes in the final with the winner coming with the last kick of the game.

Earlier Wednesday had easily seen off the challenge of steel city neighbours Sheffield united with a comprehensive 4-2 victory and booked their place in the final with a 3-2 win against Huddersfield.

The Owls line up included former captain Dean Smith, Efan Ekoku and David Reeves but Benito Carbone was undoubtedly the star of the show. The Italian was in fine form against the Blades, scoring twice and he also set up the Owls goal in the final.

Carbone is apparently interested in moving back to England to play and despite approaching his 39th birthday he appears to have maintained a high level of fitness and could be an asset to a lower league club, as an impact substitute at the very least.
